How can I create a splashscreen (startscreen) for my route in TS2013?

  • Hallo,

I have started making a startscreen for my own route using 'Desrupter's' tutorial... which in the end, when I couldn't find routes.xml, I found out is very old (Oops..) I should have looked better *shau*

Then I started looking for a tutorial for TS2013 but cannot find it. It even seems impossible to create a startscreen in TS2013 reading the posts?? Obviously with 2013 you only get 'Steam' provided loadingscreens so I think I know the answer already but...

Does anyone know if it is possible at all and how to do it?

  • As far as I know this feature was removed during the update from TS2012 to TS2013.
You can replace the slideshow with one of your own or one of them here in the download section, but this slideshow would then be "global" displayed, meaning; it will also be shown for every other route.

    Yes, this is very unsatisfactory.

Egal, wie weit Draußen man die Wahrheit über Bord wirft, irgendwann wird sie irgendwo an Land gespült.

  • You can add a thumpnail to your route, in the RW-Tools folder, Help-file no 3, Page 4, Item 'Adding Thumbnails to a Route for display in the Main TS2013 menu screen'.

  • OK! I would have liked that they had left the 'old' loadingscreens as they were but I will then make a 'thumbnail'for my route.

    Thanx guys

  • UPDATE!!!

I found out that there are 2 ways to build the thumbnail. 1 in the dropdownmenu (I used that one and it didn't work) and one under the routelist.. I noticed that one just now... If I use that it does give me the options and menu's as in the manual...

Now it says everything is OK and my files are in my Preloadfolder, which they are :) But.... that's it.. no thumbnail in the program still.

Anyone seen that problem and knows what causes it??

    Hi,

I have tried to get the route thumbnail implemented using RW_tools 4.75 and following the RW_Tools manual.

I resized my .dds file to 256x128 pixels and saved as DXT1(Alpha) with 6 mipmaps (like the manual says) but in the program it says to have a 1024x512 px with 8 mipmaps prepared? And it needs to be named loading_[routename].dds ????

    Which option is right?

1st - I get different options/menuitems as in the manual
2nd - I do not get the option to choose Route location and era
    2nd - I get numerous errors like :
Error #53 File not found, Module frmDelRoute, Procedure PutDetail
Error #52 Bad filename or number

And then nothing has happened.., only my .dds file is deleted out of my RW_tools Tempfiles folder...

I am totally in the woods on this one.. Anyone knows how to do this?

    Best regards,
    Paul

  • Hi Ouwetrekveer2013

I'm not sure what was going wrong.

In my case I made it by hand, and as far as I remember correctly it was quite easy.
You need 2 files in your preload folder:
    - <AnyNameYouLike>_MetaData.bin
    - <AnyOtherOr SimilarNameYouLike>.TgPcDx (Format DXT1, 256x128 px)

The TS will then browse all available Preload folders if it find any Metadata and will then read the content of it.
In the Metadata file it will find the name of the route:

    Code
    <Name d:type="cDeltaString">At Lake Dreusel</Name>

And the path to the thumb nail:

    Code
    <ThumbnailTextureID d:type="cDeltaString">Prellbock\LakeDreusel\Preload\[00]LakeDreusel_thumb</ThumbnailTextureID>

The name doesn't really care. You could even name it FishNChips.TgPcDx.

The next information the TS needs is the GUID to the given route, so the TS can begin to scan the list of available scenarios after doublecklicking the thumb nail:

    Code
    <RouteGUID d:type="cDeltaString">97b36b79-bbba-4724-a855-853cd8295c18</RouteGUID>

The filter criteria is placed in this section:

In this example I offered a modern european route.

You can convert the dds to TgPcDx for example with the RSBinTools.

    Hope it helps.
    Regards,
    Prelli
