    From JT's post on UKTS;

    Hi all,

The Just Trains BR 5MT is now released at:

    http://www.justtrains.net/product/br-st ... t-advanced

    Details:

The British Railways Standard Class 5MT was a class of 4-6-0 steam locomotives of which 172 were built between 1951 and 1957. You can now celebrate the successes and remember the histories of the BR 5MT Class with this Just Trains British Railways Standard MT Advanced collection, packed with Advanced features and developed to the very highest standards.

Locomotives - this collection features highly detailed BR 5MT locomotives in six variants, with black and green liveries in clean, intermediate and heavily weathered conditions. Region-dependent details are available on all variants. These can be set via the Scenario Editor and include Western Region lamps for Western Region locomotives and Southern Region discs with lamp irons on the smokebox door for Southern Region loco’s.

Unique to the 5MT Advanced are two brand new features that will assist both novice and experienced drivers!

ActivHints - this will post messages to help you drive and fire the locomotive so that it runs efficiently. ActivHints can be toggled on/off.

ActivFireman - as a new driver of steam locomotives you may not be sure about how to control the firing and watering of the boiler. No problem! Switch on ActivFireman and he will take good care of all of that work while you drive!

Tenders - also included are BR1, BR1B, BR1C, BR1G and BR1H tender types, Black and green liveries in clean, intermediate and weathered conditions are included for each type of tender. The clean tenders are further split into early emblem and late crest versions, but the intermediate and weathered versions are late crest only. The locomotive cab automatically converts itself to the correct type depending on which tender is coupled behind it.

Coaches - completing this Advanced 5MT package are three types of Just Trains Mk.1 coach (Brake Standard Open, First Open and Tourist Standard Open), all complete with passenger view, a unique leaking steam effect from the coach heating system and connecting vacuum hose pipes and steam heat pipes.

The Just Trains BR Standard 5MT Advanced is probably the most authentic and realistic steam locomotive available to date and comes with a unique Switcher utility to allow a Simple version to be driven and 13 exciting scenarios, (some requiring additional payware routes) with an approximate total duration time of around 22 hours! Three Free Roam scenarios are also included

    FEATURES:

    ADVANCED FEATURES

We have worked to replicate as far as possible the typical operations of a real steam locomotive. Fully replicating a realistic steam locomotive in Train Simulator is simply not possible, but we have added features which bring that dream closer to reality and give you a genuine feeling of what the real locomotive is like.

Unfortunately one of Train Simulator’s limitations is that you cannot start with a steam loco cold, i.e. without its fire lit, but with the 5MT Advanced you have the opportunity to join the loco at the ‘warm’ stage where it is nearly ready to drive but still requires several operations to be carried out to ensure that it runs efficiently, namely filling the sandboxes, cleaning out the dust and dirt from the smokebox, priming the oil system via the oil distributor pump, and blowing down the boiler to help remove impurities. These may not be a fully accurate set of operations with the engine warm, but they are the most authentic currently available to us.

ActivHints – a new training system that can be toggled on and off at any time, with useful hints and tips for operating the loco and notification of urgent matters which require your attention
ActivFireman – a brand-new custom AI fireman built specifically for Just Trains’ Advanced steam locomotives. When activated, he’ll take over the firing responsibilities so that you can just enjoy the drive.
    Simulated slide-type regulator
    Operating snifter/anti-vacuum valves
Realistic reverser behaviour - lock the reverser in place when the loco is stationary!
Realistic vacuum and steam brake simulation
    Scripted Automatic Warning System (AWS)
Scripted wheel animation, wheelslip and wheelskid
Chuff sounds, exhaust effects, and advanced photorealistic smoke and steam effects
Weather and seasons have a direct effect on adhesion
    Realistic water levels and gauges
    Regulator jamming
Permanent damage and solvable performance suppressions
    Directional sanders
    Fully modelled 3D firebox interior
    Glowing embers
Realistic dampers and fire temperature control
    Intelligent and Advanced firing
    Davies & Metcalfe exhaust injector
    Working tender water gauge
Warm and Hot modes – prepare your loco in Warm mode by opening the smokebox door to clear out the ash, prime the lubricators, fill the sandboxes and conduct the boiler blowdown to blow out impurities in the water. Alternatively, start off in Hot mode, in which all of these tasks have been completed and you’re ready to go.
Choice of Advanced or Simple driving mode – use the simple Switcher utility to swap between them
Steam heat control and carriage steam heating
Intelligent communication – intelligent communication is provided between a growing number of Just Trains locomotives – couple one or more 5MTs together, or double-head with a Just Trains 4MT, Clan, Britannia or Manor, for synchronised control of cylinder drain cocks and regulator, and to communicate with a little toot on the whistle!
    Realistic and detailed external animations
Fully customisable headcodes – preselect the desired headcode for both the player and the AI locomotives in the Scenario Editor
    Visible raindrops
    Advanced AI
    Tender controls
    Operating Bardic lamp
    Double-header locomotive interaction
Whistle options – Western Region bell whistle or Southern Region chime whistle
Directional sanders – remember to fill the sandboxes!
Operating fore and aft rocking firebox grates
Shed plates – individual shed plate codes can be selected
    Realistic steam chest behaviour
    Cylinder drain cocks
    Priming simulation
Realistic injector performance and steam usage
    Water gauges
    Realistic damper behaviour
Head and tail lights – customisable for all conditions

Hmm whilst I would agree that most of the voices don't match the songs, the maturity is missing, I actually like the voice of the girl singing the Tool songs, there is a special vibe to her voice. Will be interesting to see if she makes a career in music and what comes if she does. As always with kids there are some classic moments like the drummer in the Ozzy song dropping a stick, not once, but twice and the small bass player in the concrete blonde cover brings a smile to my face.

Couldn't resist this one as well. The bass guitar is bigger than the player. Haven't listened to Concrete Blonde in a few years, but nice to hear this cover.

If you like them enough, They Can be downloaded here with a lot of others https://okeefemusicfoundation.bandcamp.com/

At the moment somebody has started a poll on UKTS to see how many British simmers would buy a VR version, unlikely though it may be. So far the poll is small, but it will be interesting to see how many vote. It also shows that not only German buyers are interested in accurate German models, although I think we already know that. We are lucky to have AP and Steam Sounds supreme they fix a lot of DTG's sins, and without AP, myself and many others would have left the sim a very long time ago. It's a pity there are no German equivelants, although there are some good add-on producers like VR, TTB, ect who have made the sim much better than it would otherwise be.

In real life drivers will normally go straight to position 4 when starting these units unless they were in a very low speed area. A very few will go to position 1 breifly to be sure they have power, but position 1 is for shunting. Positions 2 & 3 are often only used for maintaining speed where position 4 would allow speed to increase too much.

Nobody is sure at the moment, it would seem that the bridge that featured in the screenshot has been replaced, but at the moment there is little information about it. No doubt at some point there will be a twitch preview.
Addendum: It would appear that the bridge has been rebuilt from scratch. rain occlusions added to tunnels and bridges, QD and scenarios are now sadly career only.

Not really on topic, but Paul Godber and Creative rail had addresses that were very close to each other, in a not so wonderful area, and IHH created some assets for creative rail. I have wondered at times if they were related, but probably it will never be known. At the moment it would appear that DTG are very keen to gain third party partners for steam release, judging by the WIP projects that are appearing.

CLass 20's normally operated in pairs nose to nose, but an exception to this was the local trip working to Corpach, where only one was used. The reason they mainly operated in pairs was because of the poor vision when driving nose first, also a class 20 only has 1000PS, not much for a heavy train on a hill. CLass 26's also appeared at times, but they were more common on the far north lines. Class 24 and 25 could also be seen at times as well.

@ 'Steveb6664' The class 117 Which never seen on this line, nor the 111 and 121. The Class 101 were used fairly Regularly up until the end of the 60's, occasionally in the 70's and 80's until radio signal ling came, then no more , The railcars thatwere common on this line ib the 50's and 60's have not yet been made in TS. I think did the class 105 thus made occasional forays up the line, more so in the sixties though. For many years in the diesel era class 27 were the most common loco on this line, Both freight and passenger. The unsuccessful NBL class 21/29 were so common during Their Brief Lives. IHH made quite a poor model of this locomotive BR days .During Class 47's were banned from this line, and for many years so were the 37's, until it what DECIDED thatthey would replace the 27's.Class 20's were also regular visitors. One was used to trip wagons to and from Corpach mill and to shunt there.

In reality the class 40 Which banned from this route, as the curves were to tight and the loco too heavy 144 tonnes, They would have damaged the track and had a very high risk of derailment.Even the class 37 caused problems with extra wear and more wheel flange greasers were installed to mitigate this.

At the moment feedback on UKTS is quite negative, those who know the line say that it is a poor representation. There should be much more undergrowth and evergreens are more common than deciduous trees. There are also other issues with station buildings and signs. Whether it will change by release is difficult to say at the moment, also line speeds will be low on this route as on WHL and JT's Kyle line.

    http://www.fastline-simulation…stock/206-fsp-03-vea-vans
    From the store page:
As longer wheelbase air braked vans were introduced it became apparent that there were some traffics that they were not suitable for. One such commodity was government stores from munitions factories to MoD depots which had a number of tight curves and clearances that were more suited to the traditional short wheelbase vans that had seen use for most of the previous century in one form or another. The issue was further compounded by the requirements to introduce a modern air braked wagon fleet and all the suitable wagons were vacuum braked!
The solution to this problem was in the late 1970's and early 1980's to convert 550 Vanwides to air brakes complete with new running gear to enable them to be used in modern Speedlink trains and still safely access the restricted locations required.
This expansion for Train Simulator includes the VEA vans in the three liveries they wore during their careers, Railfreight Maroon, Railfreight flame red and grey and Railfreight Distribution sector livery. This is further enhanced by the bonus inclusion of ODA open wagons in Railfreight flame red and grey livery and the unique wagon carrying Railfreight Distribution livery. Like any Fastline Simulation Train Simulator stock pack expansion these liveries are mixed up with clean and dirty variation, varied load simulating physics and rear versions complete with tail lamp.
Three scenarios are included for the WCML Over Shap route as this was a common stretch of track for the VEA vans to be seen in Speedlink services.

Unfortunately the sounds in this video are not of sufficient quality for AP. There would also have been a copyright issue even if they had been. If all goes well then the soundpack will be extended, however there are not any plans to fix the PZB. I think that AP is not sure that enough additional sales would be generated to justify the development time. He has many other projects that need to be worked on. Unless of course there is anybody who would be interested in providing a fix, which is probably unlikely.
