    Change log for the VDL 2.1;

    What is Phase II V2.1?
    Phase II is the second installment from release.
    It adds the Edgware Road and Wimbledon branches, and the C Stock to match.

    The route has had a whole scenery makeover, new track, new signals, QuickDrive, detailed documentation and a broad selection of scenarios.

    Update 2.1 introduces the following changes:

    STOCKS
    added JT-provided S-stock TAB triggers to prevent tripcock events through joint control-shunt signals
    replaced all S8-aliased stop boards and trainstop markers with those from the JT Metropolitan Line
    replaced S8-derived District S7 in scenarios with new version using S7+1 (S7+1 is now a scenario requirement instead of the S8)
    changed the D78 (refurb and un-refurb) R-code "Putney Bridge" destination to be "Wimbledon"

    SCENERY
    fixed missing winter tunnel textures
    converted most tunnel sections and viaducts to a loft version for seamless transitions and lower resource needs
    retextured elevated wall base to match chosen trackbed texture
    filled in some scenery gaps and terrain holes and levelled a couple of platforms
    added some spotlights in cut/cover places where visibility of the S-stock stop markers was poor
    added missing UKTS Freeware Van Repaints

    SIGNALS
    WG15 / WG4 (PBR WB/EB) – changed signal type
    W371 (WPK WB starter) – edited link1 to read across SWT depot EB x-over
    W373R (WIM approach) – new approach control repeater
    WB33 (WKN EB) – edited link1 to read across OLY x-over to ECT tunnel and EC300/EC3
    WK1A (CPK-GUN dive-under merge) – added repeater head to give more advanced warn of WK1B at red
    GB15R (KEW-RMD) – new approach control repeater
    OP5 (ERD WB P3 starter) – moved so starter is clearly visible from all cabs, incl S7

    SCENARIOS
    various fixes, tweaks and fine-tuning
    added 4 new T/Op Man scenarios

    DOCUMENTATION
    Added change log and Top Man overview to Route Guide. Updated FOV control info for TS2020. Updated pre-reqs for v2.1
    Added new v2.1 T/Op Man Scenarios Guide
    Updated Stocks Operator’s Manual

    On the subject of decoders, when I started I had around 300 loks + around a dozen control cars. I had no choice but to use budget decoders, at the moment I am using Lias DCC decoders with the occasional more expensive decoders for some of the better models. They are perfectly fine for most models. In an ideal world I would have used more expensive decoders, but it would have cost me a small fortune. It is also less painful when you hard-wire a model and get it wrong, or you have an intermittent short that is difficult to find. I would not recommend DCC Concepts decoders, I have had only problems with these. There are now a number of locos that will never receive decoders, because either there are now better models or they are too difficult to fit. I probably have another hundred vehicles to fit decoders to.Unless I win the lottery they will mostly be budget decoders.

    It is very much a gut feeling, I went with the Z21 rather than the z21 because I did not want to spend money upgrading later on, and I got it for a very good price. As I recall there was a bigger difference between the two originally. The shop I listed is my regular dealer, if you buy from him regularly, you get a further discount as a regular customer. An example is the new NS RAM DE IV from Roco, I paid £375 post free instead of the full price of £465. I place an order with him every year once I have seen the new release brochures, if I need to cancel an item it is not a problem. He will then e-mail me as he receives them and I either pay over the phone, or occasionally I will pay through paypal credit if something unexpected happens. His after sales service is also very good, and he does not mind keeping the models for a few weeks or a month if it is necessary. This has allowed my collection to grow more than it would if I had to pay the manufacturers price.

    Although I have a few Trix and Maerklin Hamo models I have to say that they rarely meet the quality of the other main brands unfortunately, although the metal bodies are nice, but it is a challenge fitting modern decoders to the Hamo models. I also have a Trix delta fitted model that will be a real challenge as well I think. One reason I have so little of these two brands is that it is important to me that coaches are the correct scale length and because there are issues with the buffer height of these brands as well. But you choose what gives you the most pleasure in the end.

    @steveb6664 I would also recommend the Roco Z21. It can be bought for a low price in the uk here https://www.scograil.co.uk/roc…control-system-2365-p.asp They will deliver to other countries. It may be that you can find a discounter in Germany as well. I use locomotives, trains, stuerwagen etc from all the main and some smaller manufacturers in HO and OO with little problem. Only very rarely do I find an issue where a lok does not like a brand of decoder. Currently I have 268 vehicles fitted with decoders, most of which are loks. I have about 50 sound fitted loks, some are very good, some average, and some can get irritating after a while. I have successfully fitted decoders to a few 30 year old loks, a much more interesting task than fitting them to new loks. I have an old PC connected by LAN to the Z21 so that I can use JMRI for programming as I am used to that.

    Britain has no real democracy, it is a democratic dictatorship. The electoral system is from the dark ages and favours the rich elite. If in one area 1000001 people vote for a candidate and 1000000 people vote for a different candidate then the 1000000 votes are lost. This government only had 40% of the vote and yet they have a huge majority, this should tell you that there is something wrong, and now they talk of changing things so that they can stay in power longer. They already play the game of changing the voting boundaries to try to split up the larger votes of the opposition parties. But the one good thing now is that Boris will have to own his lies and mistakes, he cannot blame parliament or the opposition. He isn't going to like it when things go wrong and already there are divisions again in the Tory party. He wanted to be Prime Minister at any cost, he may well find that it is too high for him yet. What a roller coaster ride it will be this year. Trouble in nearly every part of the world, we humans never seem to learn. As for the referendum being a great democratic moment, it was not, it was a great democratic failure. It happened for political reasons and had nothing to do with giving the people a vote, it was only supposed to be advisory. Too many lies on all sides, a complacent EU, rabid newspapers who want to sell papers, no matter what the cost and damage. Many people voted to leave simply to protest against the politicians who they see as being corrupt and out of touch with the people. They saw the EU politicians as no different from their own, and now we have the worst result, our own mini Trump.

    @ 'kiter' Possibly not, but that is your choice.For me the loco's, rolling stock and new assets do encourage me to buy, because they alone are worth more than the asking price so I will not lose from the purchase. The route is effectively free.

    Most of the lines on this route were secondary routes. The rails and sleepers were first laid on ashes, because it was cheap, then many years later clinker ballast was used. More expensive than ashes, but still much cheaper than proper stone ballast. These lines ran through some very bleak remote areas and made little if any profit, and many of the bridges were built weak to save money, so in real life heavy loco's could not be used on many of the lines. Of course in TS this does not matter.

    Some pictures of the real line

    and a video of the reality of winter on the line, it was notoriously difficult to operate in winter.

    This route has taken over 6 years to build, with many setbacks and problems. There are many, many custom buildings, bridges, vehicles etc, that give high recognition. It is a small team as noted already, they have done a lot, new vegetation would probably mean another year or two before release, although they have updated the route with the VP grass pack alongside the track. I very much doubt that sales will cover the cost of producing this route and the rolling stock provided. If the rolling stock was sold alone it would be at least double the price of the route. Yes it would be nice if more modern vegetation was available, but the old ones have been used in a much better way than on many modern routes. All in all I think to complain about the cost is the territory of Scrooge or the Grinch, you will have all the trains needed to run realistic services on the route from the start with expert style steam loco's, how many other routes provide this? But as they say nobody forces you to buy it.

    TS2017 Raildriver and Joystick Interface V3.1.9 released

    The program now outputs to each serial port the name of the ButtonMap without the .xml extension and the LocoName, whenever the loco changes. To enable this I have added the code
    char ButtonMap[80];
    char LocoName[80];
    in the main declaration section and then in the
    ‘if(!strcmp(data[0],"locochanged"))’
    section of the UpdateHardware() function I added

    strcpy(ButtonMap, data[1]);
    strcpy(LocoName, data[2]);

    When the program detects a new loco it sends”<locochanged:ButtonMap:LocoName> “so
    Data[0] = “locochanged”,
    data[1] = name of the current ButtonMap,
    data[2] = name of current loco.

    Not sure about the BR111 as I use a hotas throttle, not a joystick. Try the latest version and see if there is still an issue.
