Train Simulator 2012 will be released on Steam around 01:00 UK time on 23 September and will be an automatic update for all RailWorks 2 users as soon as you go online. We have worked hard to ensure trouble-free migration to the new software and full backwards compatibility, but the following notes may be of help.Train Simulator 2012 will update your existing version of RailWorks 2. If you are making content, make sure you have backed up before the upgrade starts. If you are not sure how to do this, read below. Backups are not just for wimps!
The route development and blueprint tools do not change significantly with this release. There is no new learning required to create Train Simulator 2012 material.
We recommend the following process for backing up:
Backup Source: In the Launch Window, click on “Tools & Docs”. Click on “Open the Source Folder”. Copy everything to a backup drive or directory
Backup Assets: Use the Package Manager to create packages (*.RWPs) of all of your key routes, scenarios etc. Save this to a backup drive or directory.
We hope you enjoy many hours of entertainment with Train Simulator 2012. Thanks from everybody at RailSimulator.com.
FAQ
Why are you upgrading RailWorks?
We are constantly looking for ways to improving the product and to take advantage of improvements in PC technology. Rather than dribble out changes, we group them into major releases roughly yearly. If we did not do this, RailWorks would become outdated and your investment in the product and add-on content undermined.
When will this update happen?
The exact timing is not entirely under our control, but we expect it to happen between 01:00 and 03:00 on the morning of Friday September 23rd.
How much does it cost?
There is no charge for the upgrade.
What do I have to do to get upgraded?
Simply start RailWorks and you will be updated to Train Simulator 2012.
How big is the upgrade and how long will it take to download?
The size of the download will depend on how recently you have run RailWorks, but for most people will be approximately 1.4GBytes. On typical domestic broadband connections, this should take between 30 and 60 minutes.
I’ve just been upgraded, but why don’t I get all the new features?
To ensure minimal disruption, we’ve initially set the graphics engine to run in a mode to provide the maximum compatibility for existing customers. You can enable the new graphics engine on the setting tab of the initial Train Simulator 2012 menu.
Why have you kept a compatibility mode?
Some legacy content will not work with the new graphics engine. We’re working hard to fix these problems, but we have left this mode in to endure that you can continue to enjoy all of the content you have bought.
Some of my routes and locos don’t look right. What’s wrong?
If you have bought third-party add-on routes, they may not be fully compatible with Train Simulator 2012. Try disabling the Trains Simulator 2012 graphics engine and rerunning the scenario.
What’s new in TS2012?
Lots! In terms of content, we’ve added new material (a Super Express Concept train and a F7 Warbonnet), plus we’ve made major improvements to the Class 166, Class 47 and SD40-2. But it is under the hood that most of the changes have been made. The key improvements are
Extended draw distances so you can see distant mountains
Weather effects on windows
New sky effects
Shadows
Water reflections
Super elevation (camber) of track
Some of the screens in my manual are different to those in the game.
The manuals are printed some time ahead of the release of the game. The electronic versions of the manual can be accessed from the “Tools & Docs” tab on the initial menu – these will be fully up to date.
Why haven’t all the routes in RailWorks had all the new features added?
Unfortunately lots of add-on content (both from RailSimulator.com and other developers) use the core routes in RailWorks. If we make certain changes to these routes, we break lots of scenarios and so we have chosen, at this stage, to keep them in their current form. Of course, all new routes we make will make use of the new technology.
How do I get the new Horseshoe curve route?
New Steam customers will get the Horseshoe curve route bundled with Train Simulator 2012. Existing RailWorks2 users can buy the route at http://store.steampowered.com/…mulator.com?snr=1_4_4__24
Why should I buy the Horseshoe Curve route?
This iconic route shows off the great new features in Train Simulator 2012 and is currently available at a great discount price.
Will all my add-on content work?
We have worked very hard to ensure compatibility with existing add-on content. Most add-on content will work just fine, but if you encounter problems, we suggest switching the new graphics engine off when running legacy routes. We’re working on fixing these problems as quickly as we can.
Can I still make my own routes?
Yes, the tools to make your own routes are still included with the product.
Do I need to buy a new computer?
We have worked very hard to ensure that Train Simulator 2012 will work on all machines capable of running RailWorks 2. However, if your machine specification is close to the minimum specification for RailWorks 2, many of the new features may not be available. We would also recommend that you consider disabling the Train Simulator 2012 graphics engine (use the ‘Settings’ option) on the initial menu to do this. We have set new minimum specifications for new consumers to ensure that they have machines that can provide the full set of features.
What graphics card do you recommend?
Check http://www.railsimulator.com for the minimum and recommended specification.
How much memory do I need?
Check http://www.railsimulator.com for the minimum and recommended specification.
Which operating system is best?
Windows XP, Vista and 7 are the operating systems needed to run Train Simulator 2012.
How many CPU cores should I have?
Train Simulator 2012 has been designed to use one or more CPU cores, but we have initially restricted it to using two cores for most operations to avoid overly affecting other applications you may be running. We will be providing an option shortly that allows additional cores to be used.

Schon versucht,allerdings ohne Erfolg.
Zitat<SPANtype":3}'">Hi guys, for those who were having connection issues, this should be fixed now. Looks like a depot was being mounted twice and steam was not happy with it.
Not sure what that means but it sounds painful. Sorry for the inconvenience. regards Derek
