Important Announcement
Posted on: 14 January 2016 | Tags: feature talking point news
On Monday, 18th January, we're pleased to announce that we'll be launching a brand new website which will combine both the official Train Simulator website and Engine Driver in one place. The new site is built on the highly successful and popular platform Wordpress and brings with it not only a much more streamlined and user friendly interface for us but also provides a better platform for you to explore and celebrate your passion - all things trains.
What does this mean to you?
The new site has a whole host of new features, functions and enhancements that makes it easier for you to write and submit articles, participate in discussions and share all of this with your friends.
All of your articles have been moved to the new site but unfortunately we were unable to retain much of the information from your existing Engine Driver profile, due to the different formats the data was stored in. Additionally, there may be one or two users who have been omitted due to some corruption in the data but don't panic if this is you, just drop us an email to engine-driver@dovetailgames.com and we'll make sure your account is re-established and any submitted articles are re-allocated.
There are a number of other things that we've been unable to port over from the old site including your Steam history, your points and all of your comments. However, as the new site becomes more established, we'll be introducing a whole host of new features, such as integration with Steam and a new points system. The new points system, we hope, will eventually allow you to obtain discounts off Train Simulator add-ons and we'll have some more information on this when the new system is ready.
What will happen and when?
We're confident the new site will be online on Monday morning (UK Time) for all users but there may be some who may still be served the old site during the initial transition - this is perfectly normal and there's no need for you to do anything.
How to access the new website?
You can access the new website by just going to http://www.train-simulator.com or http://www.engine-driver.com, you'll be directed to the new site whichever address you use.
What we need you to do
There are a number of things we need you to do to help us and make sure the transfer over to the new site is as trouble free as possible for all of us. While understandably, as we are getting to grips with the new software ourselves, we cannot ensure an entirely issue-free launch for all users, though we have done everything we can to prevent any major problems leading up to and following the launch.
We request that you help us by not submitting articles to the old site for the timebeing, anything posted after the publishing of this article will not be moved to the new site.
Also, when the new site rolls around, you'll need to request a new password. You can do that by clicking log in on the top right and then press the Recover Password button. Enter your details and then follow the instructions in the email to set up a new password. Your existing Engine Driver username and email address have been ported to the new site so you'll need to use those to log in.
We hope you'll love the new site just as much as we do and would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued participation on Engine Driver and very much look forward to welcoming you all on the new site on Monday.
