Hello,

We have a lot of Freeware and Payware Rollmaterial and freeware buildings nowadays in TS2012...

...is it possible to re-structure the Assets-map?

For example: 1 map with 'DB Rollmaterial' and then copy all of the add-ons to this map on the Assets-folder
This way we could shorten the list of all rollmaterial; it would make the editing much faster and efficient

Same for buildings or lofts for example
Other words: i find it very difficult with all those developer-names which has made what add-on, and with which green mark I will activate which addon......

Help? is this possible?

PS: I tried with 'astauders' pack of BR189 and ALEX trains: they show up in the list of developers, and the names of trains (for example 189-Europeanbulls) appears on the left selection, but when I want to place it on the tracks, the rollmaterial won't show!??

I agree with that.
It's very difficult to keep in mind which objects can be found at which developer. No matter if you search for vehicles, buildings, plants, animals and so on.

A solution for this dilemma could only be solved by creating a huge database with every and all objects available, sorted by type, developer and origin (where to buy/download) with a small picture and a short description, maybe with informations of different repaints, sizes, compatibilities, special functions or maybe if winter and/or night textures are available and with links to similar objects.
It should be possible to search in it. Criterias could be: Developer (Kuju?), categorie (f.e. Tunnels?), nation (f.e. US-material?) and so on or with some key words like coal, fence, industrial, cow, light...

Inside Railworks I can't see any possibility to "heal" this chaotic directory philosophy. The lack of a unique standardized naming convention makes it even harder and the unability of some developers to name their objects in multiple languages are another point of difficulty. Not all objects are named in english... some are only french, czech or german or are named in a cryptic matter.
Last but not least many objects are hidden in wrong categories.

In my healthy opinion it's an impossible task to get an intelligent and tidy object management.

The idea of a database could be a solution for this, but this would need a lot of manpower and time to create this and to keep it up to date with new released objects.

Any other ideas?

My problem: it'a hard to find out who has made which addon. Currently TS2012 is becoming so large, it almost grows to fast...

My suggestion: in the route building editor (and in the scenario editor) integrate a 'search-function'. Just a simple box where we can type a keyword from the asset you're searching.

For example: the DB br143 is there from 3 developers, Kuju, RW3, Virtual Railroads and earlier German Railroads! Now you've got to scroll down the whole list of locomotives to find yourself the right option. It's much more easy to type as keyword '143' and find a small list with all liveries from all developers. More specific search: 'DB br' and find al German baureihes in 1 list!

Maybe it's not the most challeging to incorporate and present as a new feauture but it sure helps me as custom routebuilder to get a focus of all those addons, versions, repaints, remakes, of assets... Etc. etc.

It just getting a mess in the Asset directory but with my idea we can overrule that fact by integrating it in the game as a search option?

With my thoughts to improve the simulator and to keep it playable, I'm waiting for your answer how you think you will manage this in the future?
