    When the great locomotive engineer George Jackson Churchward became the Locomotive Superintendent and Chief Mechanical Engineer of the Great Western in 1902, he knew exactly what was needed. He drew up a plan for 6 new locomotive types which would serve the needs of the GWR. However, not on this list were the 2-8-0 tank types. Later, having seen the need for something more powerful to bring the heavy coal trains down the valleys to the ports, Churward made a new list locomotives, and this time included a proposal for a tank version of the successful 2800 tender loco. The prototype appeared in 1910. Many refinements were made over the years which followed. GJC's successor, Collett, continued building the 4200. But with design changes, the 5205 class was born. This occurred in 1923.
    They were almost solely used in the South Wales Coalfield. But there were some notable exceptions. During the First World War, some 4200's worked coal trains to Shrewsbury. Although, this wasn't ideal, as with small water tanks, many water stops were needed! They very rarely appeared in the London area. One notable occasion is when 4238 was seen at Paddington in 1931 on a passenger train, no doubt helping during the summer rush. Some also worked in the West County, in Devon and Cornwall. However, this was the exception, rather than the rule.
    The master of pretty much any job, these powerful tank engines will soon be coming to Steam Sounds Supreme, courtesy of Victory Works.

    Add to all of these options for outside or inside steam pipes, tall or short safety valve covers as painted or polished brass, red (early GWR) or white lamps, cab weather panels and bunker guards and the possibilities are nearly endless.
    As well as the usual features you expect from Victory Works (realistic wheel slip, simulated steam chest, advanced boiler management, realistic injector control, "by the shovel" stoking and dynamic smoke, steam and cab effects) we have also added some all new features for this locomotive..
    * Improved firebox model and textures
    * Extra cab views
    * GWR second/low tone whistle can be used to activate the guards van hand brake by “crowing” at him (when used with the included 20t Toad Brake Vans)
    * Low speed "lumpy motion" synonymous with this locomotive class, fully synchronised to the driving wheel weights
    * Brand new second valve effects demanding even more conscientious and realistic driving
    * New atmospheric AI effects (whistle blowing, cylinder cocks, requesting guard van assistance on and after steep gradients)
    * Authentic and Realistic Sounds Recorded From a Real 4200 Class
    * Sounds designed to interact with all the advanced features listed above
