  • Change log for the VDL 2.1;

    What is Phase II V2.1?
Phase II is the second installment from release.
It adds the Edgware Road and Wimbledon branches, and the C Stock to match.

The route has had a whole scenery makeover, new track, new signals, QuickDrive, detailed documentation and a broad selection of scenarios.

Update 2.1 introduces the following changes:

    STOCKS
added JT-provided S-stock TAB triggers to prevent tripcock events through joint control-shunt signals
replaced all S8-aliased stop boards and trainstop markers with those from the JT Metropolitan Line
replaced S8-derived District S7 in scenarios with new version using S7+1 (S7+1 is now a scenario requirement instead of the S8)
changed the D78 (refurb and un-refurb) R-code "Putney Bridge" destination to be "Wimbledon"

    SCENERY
    fixed missing winter tunnel textures
converted most tunnel sections and viaducts to a loft version for seamless transitions and lower resource needs
retextured elevated wall base to match chosen trackbed texture
filled in some scenery gaps and terrain holes and levelled a couple of platforms
added some spotlights in cut/cover places where visibility of the S-stock stop markers was poor
added missing UKTS Freeware Van Repaints

    SIGNALS
    WG15 / WG4 (PBR WB/EB) – changed signal type
W371 (WPK WB starter) – edited link1 to read across SWT depot EB x-over
W373R (WIM approach) – new approach control repeater
WB33 (WKN EB) – edited link1 to read across OLY x-over to ECT tunnel and EC300/EC3
WK1A (CPK-GUN dive-under merge) – added repeater head to give more advanced warn of WK1B at red
    GB15R (KEW-RMD) – new approach control repeater
OP5 (ERD WB P3 starter) – moved so starter is clearly visible from all cabs, incl S7

    SCENARIOS
    various fixes, tweaks and fine-tuning
added 4 new T/Op Man scenarios

    DOCUMENTATION
Added change log and Top Man overview to Route Guide. Updated FOV control info for TS2020. Updated pre-reqs for v2.1
Added new v2.1 T/Op Man Scenarios Guide
    Updated Stocks Operator’s Manual

  • Some might remember and noticed that the DTG route London - Peterborough has included a second track line that runs over Hertford. Buth this part was never finished, there was only track and no scenery. :/ .... UNTIL NOW... ^^

Since today the Freeware "The Hertford Loop v1" (by Twistedredblack) is published on https://alanthomsonsim.com/?page_id=2266
The Hertford Loop runs from Alexandra Palace to Stevenage via Enfield and Hertford. Something about 24 miles with 11 stations, double track and electrified. But you can drive here the whole ECML South between Peterborough and King´s Cross too.
Included are two quick drives (covers only the Hertford Loop section) and 3 scenarios.

The Bad thing - a lot of Payware is needed. The Good thing: the Freeware can be deinstalled easily manually, because you have only one asset folder in the freeware route. So there should be theroetical no (less) impact to other routes if you delete it. ;)

    Following Payware is needed:
    - ECML London - Peterborough
    - WCML North
    - Liverpool - Manchester
    - North London & Goblin Lines
    - Portsmouth Direct Line (Waterloo - Portsmouth)
    - Settle to Carlisle
    - North Wales Coastal
    - GEML London - Ipswich
    - SWML Southampton - Bournemouth

    Additional the:
    - Wherry Lines [Armstrong Powerhouse]
    - Just Trains Common Library (should be included in JT-Routes since Edinburgh - Newcastle)
    - WCML "The Missing Link" [available on ATS too, but for this you need a one-year-subscription because its premium content]

For scenarios further rolling stock are needed.

"Wenn ihr nicht auf meiner Seite steht, dann seid ihr mein Feind!" (Anakin/Vader) - "Nur ein Sith kennt nichts weiter als Extreme" (Kenobi) - Star Wars

  • The Bad thing - a lot of Payware is needed

You also need the OHLE Pack, Its payware 9.99GBP or for subscribers 4.99GBP. ;)

Mein System: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, MSI X670E TOMAHAWK WIFI socket AM5, G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo 32 GB CL30 DDR5-6000 RAM-Kit, ASUS GeForce RTX 4070 OC-Grafikkarte, Samsung 2 TB 980 EVO PCIE SSD fur TSC, 1TB Samsung 970 EVO PCIE fur Win11 und Corsair EX100U 2 TB external ssd mit usb-c Gen3.2 fur TSC backup. CORSAIR Hydro X-serie custom watercooling setup.

  • Though I follow them on fb they reason for their clousre is a tad unclear for me. As I understood the mater, they´ve said that they more or less work on it as a full time job though it is just a hobby for them. Also their income from it is basicly zero and is just not affordable on this scale.

It´s really a shame as they were absolutly top notch! Bought their Deltic pak, it´s really great and absolutely transforms the Kuju 55 to something quite decent.

@holzroller Yes they will. One of their route builders (Tom Harrison) was/is the main bilder behind the Midland Main line. His current routes (Cumbiran Coast Line) will be relesaed somewhere lese.

Branch lines to East Grinstead DT_v3b Route

After completing the Bluebell railway route I decided my next challenge was to create the Middleton Press ‘Branch lines to East Grinstead’.
.I was fortunate in discovering the 'National Library of Scotland' web site and the 'explore Georeference maps', which cover the whole of the UK These 25” maps showed all the track layout and combining that with the gragient diagram had no problem in extending the line to Ardingly and Haywards Heath (proposed extension to the Bluebell Railway)
I didn’t have the luxury of gradient diagrams for the line from Three Bridges to Tunbridge Wells West, but fortunately managed to acquired three volumes of J.T.Howard Turner 'The London, Brighton & south coast railway' though it wasn’t as convenient and more time consuming I was able to extract line gradient information. Combing this with the above 25” maps meant I could made a reasonably accurate recreation of the line .
Provision was made for double track throughout, though only single track was laid between Ashurst junction to Three Bridges and from Horstead Keynes to Culvert Junction (Originally Barcombe Junction). I decided early on to have double track where possible as I find it slightly more interesting when encountering oncoming trains in the game. With the amount or development along this route since its closer I'm sure a double track would have been require, hay ho.
I have reinstated all the goods yards even those at Lewes, East Grinstesd,Royal Tunbridge Wells West, Oxted plus the upper level platforms at East Grinstead at the expense of the now supermarkets that now occupy these sites. All the goods yards along this route are as shown on the 1914 Os 25", apart from those on the original Bluebell line.
There has been talk about reopening some of the lines and from walking most of them it looks possible, even into Lewes via a long abandoned railway at Hamsey which could join into the existing Keymer Branch, however East Grinstead east to Brockhurst and Grange road no way. Even connecting to Three Bridges would be a problem.

The route goes from Godstone tunnel (M25) and Oxted in the north, south to Lewes, then west to Haywards Heath, in the west from Three Bridges to Royal Tunbridge Wells West in the east, with the north south cross line west of Groombridge between Ashurst and Eridge stations (see thumbnail).

There are some track only stretches from Three Bridges west to Crawley and south to Haywards Heath. A road shows the Branch line from Eridge to Barcombe Mills, (possible next project) but this isn't included in the Branch lines to East Grinstead and one has to stop somewhere doesn't one?
The BathTemp track rules have been replaced with the Settle to Carlisle track rules.
    The line is not electrified
