RSSLO Voith Maxima 40CC V3 Sound Release Sound enhancement - by Gainmaster - AleksJNORD. A little foreword, i have been around big Diesel Locomotives most of my childhood My father was a shunting foreman at NSB Bergen Jernbanestasjon in Norway in the 80s (DI-8 made an impression on me back then, ground shaking power) Technical Real life Engine-related: Back to the modern era, Voith made this beast of a locomotive. Partnering with Anglo Belgian Corporation to get a beast of a Marine engine onshore to work on rails. Coupled together with a truly massive constant connected Hydraulic Pump. This in turn makes very large volume and pressure to run the Hydraulic drive motors. I believe it also drives the very large side/roof mounted cooling fans. There should also be an electric compressor onboard to act most importantly for engine start and brake backup. Hydraulics should power a screw compressor for main air-tank and normal operation. Correct me if i am wrong and there is a large mounted generator that drives more than the battery pack, electrics, signalling etc. Having first hand knowledge with engines (i have overhauled Diesel engines myself) i wanted to bring the ABC V16 fully to life. For those who understands engines the ABC V16 is more common in the Marine industry, personally i am impressed Voith made the biggest HP of its series work without seawater cooling. This is probably not interesting for the pure gamers here but for me and some others might find the technical side of the Maxima interesting. Game Related: I was very impressed by Gainmasters sounds, but felt the Hydraulics which you cannot avoid on the maxima were lacking. The whining/buzz you hear when the locomotive is the Hydraulic Cooling pack and the Hydraulic pump. (Yes this sound comes from a real Voith Maxima 40CC standing 3 meters away from the side fans) After some tweaking i felt the Maxima Hydraulics/Cooling pack over two KVGB-16 from Bergen Diesel in this V3 version. (7500hp 2xV16 - Tug boat) were a fit. Further Bass and volume tweaked to match reality, also micro cut in Audacity to avoid pops and clicks in the sample. Description of the work done: Motor_1 and Motor_2 has been scratch made by me; idle V16 Bergen Diesel (Mic At the Exhaust stack) with Hydraulic / Fan from Maxima 40CC mixed. Motor_3 and 4 from Gainmaster had the perfect large turbo sound for what i wanted to achieve so all i had to do was add a touch of bass and pitched the Voith Hydraulics on top of it. for V1.01 i plan to work on the Engine Start sound itself and shutoff to fit the V16 sound. The Hydraulic System; Pump/Fan/Cooling pack can now be heard throughout the whole engine range. (Not the Hydraulic-motors, they are acting alone so would be unrealistic to mix in another sound to the motor-pump unit) Train simulator does not fully understand Joules/Bar etc so amperage is shown when you throttle, in reality the Maxima is a giant Hydraulic pump in a locomotive frame. The big hydraulic pump is always connected and makes pressure for the Hydraulic motors driving the wheels. It still has air brakes but no electric retarding is possible as in the Stadler Eurodual. To answer a comment on the V2 release there was a wish to increase the volume of the sounds. Most of the sounds from Engine 2 upwards are clipping already (maximum volume). I hope these sounds from both our efforts make the Voith V16 justice. Credits: Gainmaster and AleksJNORD. Disclaimer: (Please ask before using these sounds in your own release)
